An edition that fits in the palm of your hand.
2 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 5
At a glance we reached the 5th edition, a hand full of reasons to think, in a program that points this year to notions like freedom, fun, ecology, family and art!
It is time to readapt to the moment we live in, with the necessary resilience and joy. For this reason, IndieJunior Allianz – Porto International Children and Youth’s Film Festival, will firstly go to schools during the months of January and February, bringing a world full of ideas and dreams directly to the classroom. In a second moment, it will be the families’ turn to enjoy the sessions, already in the festival’s partner rooms, on a date to be announced, on the return to the occupation of the city’s cultural spaces.
This is a fifth edition full of new films, fresh partnerships, and many young programmers. The festival program presents, among other proposals, a competition that this year includes 40 films, including short and feature films, fictions, documentaries and animations. As usual, some of these films were chosen by children and young people aged 6 to 18, from four schools in Porto (Grouping of Schools Carolina Michaelis, Secondary School of Almeida Garrett, Colégio Luso-Francês and Osmope), as part of the initiative I Program a Film Festival, organsed in partnership with the Parallel Program of Teatro Rivoli. In 2021, the activity has renewed partnerships: the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave and the Professional School of Centro Juvenil de Campanhã.
And we remember that our youngest spectators, babies, will be able to go to Lap Cinema in a second moment of the festival, in a room and with a new set design adapted to the pandemic times that we live, in a creative collaboration with ESMAE and its teachers and students. The partner rooms that will host the public sessions of all sections of the festival will be announced shortly. We will also welcome Manuela Azevedo this year, in the section My First Film, which will share why seeing The Night Before Christmas was so remarkable for her.
On a date yet to be announced, we will also present a Cine-concert just the way, animated sounds to match the madness of the five masterpieces chosen for the program, which are also a plunge into the history of cinema, by the hands of directors and pioneers in the their times. Live music is in charge of José Valente, one of the most innovative composers and violists of his generation, who has developed an intense musical activity defined by the irreverence, contemporaneity and virtuosity of his way of playing and composing. When exploring the limits of his instrument through the symbiosis of different musical styles, rarely associated with the traditional repertoire for viola, Valente creates a unique musical voice. A morning of music and cinema in a unique and unrepeatable conjunction.
So, we started our appetite in January, with a program for schools that will have with the film community of all ages and later on we will meet in the city halls to see the films on the big screen!
