Babies’ cinema and workshops, The Banksy’s cine-concert and a focus on Norwegian cinema

The most welcoming space of the festival, Baby Cinema returns to the festival, this time based in the Novo Ático room at the Coliseu Porto Ageas. With a scenography specially designed for children aged between 6 and 30 months, the experience allows a first exploration of the big screen, through short films full of colour and stimulating sounds, with surprising projections, in a space that allows the child to react and move safely. The space, resembling a tent by the water and the forest, was designed with the contribution of students from the School of Music and Performing Arts. Together with the projection sessions, Baby Cinema includes, for the first time, a workshop, where elements such as water, colour and sound will be used, in a creative way, to stimulate the senses of the little ones. The sessions of Baby Cinema will take place at various times over the weekend of 28th and 29th January, and the workshop Entre Poças e Borrifos will take place on the 28th, with two sessions (2pm and 3pm).

Composed by Ilda Teresa de Castro and Vítor Rua, The Banksy’s are situated in the universe of music that does not allow itself to be limited by definitions of genre and style. Rather, it proposes a sound-imagetic journey that develops through the unique language they created based on their experiences as individuals and artists. Sound, ecology and music intersect on the stage of Batalha, in a show that promises to surprise children and adults alike. An atmosphere of music and video, where the sea and the old port undulate together in a fabulous rhythm. The films, chosen in partnership with the FILMar project, portray a Porto of other times, full of experiences by the river and the sea. A dive in the past with the freshness of the present. The film-concert will take place on January 29th, at 16h15, at Batalha Film Centre.

In an exercise that widens borders in the understanding and knowledge of world cinema, IndieJúnior Porto 2023 will organize a focus dedicated to Norwegian cinema. Based at Casa das Artes, this programme will include the screening of the feature film Sisters: the Summer We Discovered Our Superpowers, a powerful family film that follows two sisters searching for their lost father in the mountains, as well as a selection of animated shorts for children, which showcase the work of current directors.

Anticipating the festival, there will be an IndieJunior Warm-up session, on the 14th of January, at Casa Comum, in Reitoria da Universidade do Porto. The session is free and will start at 4 p.m..

The 7th International Film Festival for Children and Youth of Porto will take place between January 23rd and 29th, 2023, in an edition that is marked by the change of the event to the recently opened Batalha Film Centre. With the Sea as its central theme, the festival once again proposes a vast programme of films, workshops and other activities for children, youngsters and families.

We remind you that registrations for schools in the sessions developed specifically for school audiences are still open in this link. Tickets will be on sale soon.
