From IndieJunior Porto to the Oscars: Ice Merchants, by João Gonzalez

João Gonzalez’ animated short film Ice Merchants (Mercadores de Gelo) is the first film in the history of Portuguese cinema to be nominated for an Oscar, according to the list of nominees announced this Tuesday. And there’s more: it is part of the program for the seventh edition of IndieJunior. 🤩

Ice Merchants is the third film by João Gonzalez and is produced in Portugal by Bruno Caetano, with Cola Animation, and co-produced with France and the UK. The film can be seen at the screening Foam of the Days (+15), which will take place at Batalha Film Center, on January 28th, at 02:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

On January 27, from 6 pm, the director – who was part of the official jury of the festival in the 2022 edition – will be present in a Talk with Filmmakers, in the Batalha café, together with directors Alexandra Allen (Foxtale) and Mónica Santos (O Casaco Rosa), moderated by Luísa Sequeira. Participation is free.
