Memories Vacancies (+12): a reflection on family, freedom, history and feelings

The Short Film Competition of this seventh edition of the festival is composed of 6 different sessions, which bring together a set of short films grouped by themes for different age groups.

Today we present the session Waves of Memories (+12 years old – 3rd Cycle – 55′), composed of 6 films that deal with themes such as: memories, family, freedom, history and feelings.

There will be 1 family session on Sunday and 6 school sessions during the week:

Session with films without dialogues or with dialogues with Portuguese subtitles

Synopsis of the session:
In an attempt to make La reine des renards smile again, all the love letters that were never sent are sought. In the comfort of his home, The Pink Jacket tortures and sews up opponents of the system. After 20 years of living together, Carine, Fabrice and their son Simon will have to find L’Amour en plan. A girl seeks a connection with her sister, who is covered in a strange, grey FurKuumba Umbo, from our infancy to our last breath, we as humans learn about the world around us and try to find our place in it. On a warm August afternoon, the family gathers around the table to talk about their memories of The Garbage Man.

Marina Rosset, Switzerland, anim., 2022, 9′.

Hoping to see their queen smile again, a group of foxes scour the city’s rubbish in search of all the love letters that were never sent.

The Pink Jacket
Mónica Santos, Portugal, anim., 2022, 8′.

A political music-movie about a Pink Jacket who always has something up his sleeve. In the comfort of his home, Casaco Rosa tortures and sews up the opponents of the system.

L’Amour en plan
Claire Sichez, France, anim., 2021, 14′.

20 years of living together when they no longer live together. Carine, Fabrice and their son Simon live each in their own corner until they have to confront everything that separates… and unites them.

Fur
Madeleine Homan, Netherlands, anim., 2022, 5′.

A girl searches for a connection with her sister, who is covered in a strange, grey down. It is soft and different at the same time. It grows between them, and they move further and further away from each other.

Kuumba Umbo
Ekaterina Ogorodnikova, Belgium/United States, anim., 2022, 7′.

The birth of form is the birth of the world. From our infancy until our last breath, we as humans learn about the world around us and try to find our place in it. An African mask can reveal a whole spectrum of human culture, its origins and the transformation that takes place to produce the art that exists in the museums of the world.

The Garbage Man
Laura Gonçalves, Portugal, anim., 2022, 12′

On a hot August afternoon, the family gathers around the table. Everyone’s memories come together to recall the story of Uncle Button. From the dictatorship to the emigration to France, where he worked as a rubbish man, and when he returned to Belmonte in his van full of “rubbish” that he turned into a real treasure.

This session was programmed by the students of the 9th A, from the Fontes Pereira de Melo Secondary School, as part of the educational activity “I Program a Film Festival”.

The seventh edition of IndieJunior Porto – International Children and Youth Film Festival will take place from January 23rd to 29th at Batalha Film Center, at Municipal Library Almeida Garrett, Casa das Artes, Coliseu Porto Ageas, Maus Hábitos and Rectory of Universidade do Porto.
