As soon as Maalum leaves her home, she faces the challenges posed by the discourses and practices of a racist society. As soon as she arrives at school, everyone laughs at her name. She doesn’t understand why and with the help of her family Maalum will discover the meaning of her name. The sadness turns in to pride through her ancestry.
